Sunday luncheon held today (first and third Sundays of each month) was combined with a small function to celebrate the success of student scholars under the Saraswathy Scholarship Program. Of the scholars who sat for the grade 5 scholarship exams, 19 from the 5 schools had received a total of more than 100 points and three over the scholarship cut-off marks of 143. The 19 students and their parents, together with the class teacher responsible for them, were invited to Ramanalayam, and certificates of recognition were given to each of the students. For the three who scored more than the cut-off score, a cash reward of Rs 3,000 was presented to assist their future studies, together with the certificates.
In addition, our regular elder participants and devotees of Ramana were also present at today’s luncheon. The weekly dry rations under the Ramana Akshaya Feeding Program were also distributed to the recipient elders.
The need for good values for purposeful living was shared with the children by Dr M Jeyarajan, while Prof Balasubramaniam spoke on the role of spirituality in bringing up children as responsible citizens.
The luncheon for the first Sunday of each month is sponsored by the group of senior citizens, “Friendly Hands” of Canada. At today’s luncheon, we also remembered Mrs Jegathambal Ramachandran on her 10th death anniversary.
The luncheon concluded around 1:00 pm. after a sumptuous lunch.
